WHILE the lottery system of the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority has always been in question by home seekers, MHADA this year will allow people to have a look at the software, to confirm that it's not rigged. Jawahar Singh, chief vigilance officer, MHADA agreed, that they have planned to keep the lottery system open and transparent. "Anyone who wants to see our lottery system is allowed to see the software. We want to be transparent and hence are taking all necessary steps," said Singh. This year MHADA has 3,863 homes to offer. These flats are located at Versova, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Pratiksha Nagar, Dahishar and other such locations within the periphery of Mumbai. For the first time MHADA has put up a special notice in the advertisements stating that MHADA has not hired any agent and the forms would be available only at the 22 HDFC bank branches across the city. H K Jawale, chief officer of the Mumbai Regional Housing and Development Authority, said, "We have added a caution in all our advertisements to believe people who claim to be agents of MHADA. Apart from this for the first time, big hoardings with mobile numbers, e-mail ids and other important contact details would be placed outside the banks so that if anyone finds an agent they can immediately contact the authorities." The MHADA authorities claim that in the last one year 10 FIRs have been registered by the vigilance department and only last month an agent was arrested from the MHADA canteen after a tip off. "We are acting strictly against any sort of information that we get. We do not want the people to think that agents or anyone not from the authority can get them a flat. There is a procedure and one has to follow it," said Singh. The dates of lottery have not yet been decided, but the forms will be available from January 12 to 30 and will be accepted from 13 to 31 of the same month. Once the draw is done the person who gets the flat will have to submit 25 per cent of the total amount in the first month whereas the rest in the next three months.
