State tourism board to encourage turtle tourism

IF Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation's (MTDC) plans take off, you could soon be walking along the beaches of Konkan watching baby turtles hatch from their eggs and find their way into sea.

MTDC may well be the first state tourism board to start turtle tourism. "It is part of our beach tourism plan. We will extend support to the NGO Sahyadri Nisarg Mitra (SNM), which is doing great work in the saving the turtle population in Konkan belt. Festivals organised by them have got a good response," said Vijay Chauhan, MTDC, Chairman.
