It has been almost a month since Maharashtra started witnessing a spike in cases after a low number of daily cases. The silver lining is that an increasing number of patient ate recovering. “While the cases are increasing, 80 per cent of them are asymptomatic and quarantined at their homes. Now, after 14 days, the number of recovered patients has started increasing as well,” said an officer with the BMC. On Friday, 1,173 patients recovered and on Saturday 1,188 patients recovered and discharged. The number of recovered patients in the last two days is almost the same as the new cases and the number of active patients in the city remained at 10,000. The city reported 1,188 cases on Saturday after conducting 20,466 tests. The test positivity rate, i.e. cases among 100 tests, is 5.8 per cent. The TPR was below 3 per cent in the first week of February. Of the five deaths reported in Mumbai, four patients had comorbidities. One patient was below 40 years of age, one patient was aged between 40 and 60 years and three deaths were of those above 60 years of age. There were 2,208 cases in MMR including Mumbai. Other cities such as Thane (222), Navi Mumbai (177), and Kalyan- Dombivli (223) are also reporting a higher number of cases since February. MMR recorded four deaths on Saturday, excluding Mumbai. Pune and Akola circles registered 10 and 11 deaths respectively.
