Mumbai: 2 held for forcing Bangladeshi women into flesh trade

The 20-year-old, who was kept in a room in Nagpada, approached the cops after months of torture

The DB Marg police have arrested two people for forcing a 20-year-old Bangladeshi woman into prostitution. According to the complaint filed by the victim, she had come to Mumbai with her baby to earn a living, but was forced into prostitution by the accused. She said the men threatened to hand her over to the police citing her Bangladeshi nationality. After months of torture, she mustered the courage to register a complaint at DB Marg police station.

One of the three accused remains absconding. As per the police, the 20-year-old is a native of Jamalpur village, Jaipur Hat district of Bangladesh. She was married at 14 and had a baby at 16. Abandoned by her husband, the woman was left to fend for herself and her baby. Failing to find work in Dhaka, she came into to Kolkata with the help of some women.
