Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collected Rs 78 crore in fines from people who were found without masks in public places from April 8, 2020 to November 24, 2021.
According to a report published in the Indian Express, the BMC collected Rs 78.55 crore from 39 lakh citizens in one year. The civic body had made masks mandatory in public areas last year in Mumbai to contain the spread of coronavirus. Mumbai was one of the worst effected cities in the country with maximum Covid-19 cases.
