An executive engineer of BMC’s K east ward, was arrested on Friday, by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding Rs 50 lakh as bribe from a private company. The accused, Satish Powar, 57, it was claimed, asked for the money to halt action against an alleged illegal construction inside the company’s premises.

According to ACB officials, on October 13, the company which manufactures spare parts for cars, received a notice from BMC’s K east ward office stating that the shed constructed inside their premises was illegal. Within a week the company replied to the BMC office. However, the BMC reasoned their reply was unsatisfactory and started demolition of the said shed on October 28. The company approached executive engineer Powar, who called them to his office and demanded the sum of Rs 50 lakh for halting the action.
