After playing 'pawri' poopers, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a stern warning told Mumbaikars that they will 'gatecrash' big fat Indian wedding celebrations where appropriate COVID-19 behaviour is not being followed.

The country's richest civic body posted a picture on Twitter with a warning for citizens that read, "After all, 'safety' is the best gift you could give to the newlyweds". Using #CelebrateResponsibly hashtag, the civic body said that if COVID-19 norms are not followed they would gatecrash the wedding for the 'safety of Mumbai'!

Interestingly, the BMC also tweeted a picture of the wedding invite with a caption that stated: Gifts only in the form of practicing every COVID-prevention norm!

In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the BMC has started taking action against the owners and management of gyms, hotels, restaurants, and marriage halls where people are seen without mask or caught violating COVID-19 norms.

On Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai reached 3,35,584 after 1,012 people tested positive. The city also witnessed two deaths. thus taking the death toll to 11,506. As per BMC data, the city has 21 containment zones and 214 sealed buildings.

In a bid to curb the rising number of cases, Mumbai's neighbouring area Thane announced lockdown starting from March 13 to March 31 in 11 hotspots. Besides Thane, Amravati has been under lockdown since February which was later extended.
