Admissions have begun for the 10 new CBSE schools to be run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the Mumbai Public School banner. Parents will be able to apply for seats through the BMC’s official online portal or can also visit the schools. Last year the BMC had started one CBSE and one ICSE school and competition for admission was tough with nearly seven applications for a seat.
Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is one of the ambitious projects of the BMC education department. The objective is to provide quality education to students who cannot afford admissions to private schools in the city. Last year, the BMC opened a CBSE school in Poznan Nagar in Jogeshwari and an ICSE (Indian Certification of Secondary Education) school in Mahim’s Woolen Mill. Considering the overwhelming response for this CBSE school last year, the BMC decided to begin 10 more such schools, making it a total of 11 civic-run CBSE schools and one ICSE school across city.
