BMC encourages citizens to snap a photo of potholes and send it to them

Mumbai: Click that pothole!

BMC has only completed 20 per cent of the concretisation work

With over 40 per cent of roads yet to be converted into cement concrete, the BMC has recruited the help of Mumbaikars to track the progress of work.

The civic authorities announced that if they want to register a complaint about a pothole in their area they can snap a photograph and send it to their WhatsApp number or the Fixit app.

This comes after BMC has been able to complete less than 20 per cent of concretisation work till now, despite starting the work last year itself.

Mumbai’s road network spans 2,050 km, with 990 km already concretised by 2022.

The BMC had undertaken the concretisation of 210 km of the city back in January 2022 and sanctioned a proposal for another 397 km in February 2023, costing Rs 6,080 crore excluding the GST of 18 per cent.

Soon, the tender process for the remaining 400 km is to begin and has been estimated to cost Rs 6,250 crore.

Concerns that the work might not be completed before the oncoming monsoon, have led to fears of rampant potholes and thereby chaos is growing each day.
