Mumbai experienced light drizzles late on Saturday evening at Dadar, Andheri, and Sion said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). This rainfall was caused primarily due to the thunderstorms that are prevailing near Vidarbha and Marathwada regions.

“These regions have been experiencing thunderstorms with gusty winds at 30-40km/hour,” said an IMD official, speaking with mid-day. “This weather system has also been associated with lightning and light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorms usually have short spells of rainfall.”

“Mumbai temperatures at the beginning of April were quite high at around 37-38°C. But now the temperature is getting stabilised…the weather is becoming more cloudy. Even though it didn’t rain properly over Mumbai on Saturday, satellite pictures indicated that Mumbai was partly cloudy most of the time, so there was a relief from the high temperatures, accompanied by winds.”

The official said that there is currently a trough that is moving in a north-south direction and is passing easterly over Maharashtra. “While these (trough) winds are coming towards the ghats, it looks like the entire band of wind is taking a sharp U-turn and returning back to its normal course. It’s like a V-shape in the wind.”

The official added: “Mumbai will experience windy weather accompanied by partly cloudy skies in the evenings for the next three days. This weather system will be active across Maharashtra — but it will have more of an impact on the Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra regions. There are thunderstorm warnings for these regions, as well as for South Konkan and Raigad — which is very close to Mumbai.”
