An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Kherwadi Police in Bandra (E) was injured after a massive fire broke out in one of the store rooms at Kherwadi police station premises on Monday afternoon, the police said.


The injured ASI was indentified as Arvind Khot, 57, he was seriously injured in the incident, the police said.


According to the police sources, ASI Arvind Khot was rushed to the Sion hospital and has been admitted in the ICU ward.


Police sources told mid-day that his condition is serious due to burn injuries.

Police officials said ASI Khot was trying to extinguish fire during which he sustained the burn injuries.

Sources further added that the fire broke out at around 12.47 pm on Monday at the time of the incident many police officials and some citizens were present in the police station in Bandra (E). Many papers and documents were also kept inside the store room, sources added.

After the fire broke out, the police officials immediately informed to the Mumbai fire bridge about the incident that rushed to the spot.

Fire brigade officials said, the fire was confined to electric wiring, electric installation, office records etc. in police station store room on the ground floor of ground plus 2 upper floor structure. The fire brigade and ambulance rushed at the spot and extinguish the fire.

The injured constable was rushed to hospital for treatment, a police official said.
