Senior officers from the Railway Protection Force said local resident Babu Gaikwad, 45, was trying to get into the Nagpur-bound Sewagram Express at the time of the mishap. He was headed for Nashik.
A man in a white shirt tried to help Gaikwad board the train, but it picked speed. The visually impaired passenger lost his balance and fell down. The scene prompted RPF constable Dilip Kumar Dauda to sprint to Gaikwad’s help.
Later, Gaikwad said he wasn’t aware the train had already started moving when he was being helped by a fellow passenger board it.
RPF Senior Inspector Surendra Koshta said, “The incident occurred at 3.11pm. Our constable Dilip Dauda rushed towards Gaikwad when he slipped. Dauda pulled the victim away from the moving train and saved his life.”
The policemen at Dadar station sent Gaikwad to Nashik in another train after a medical test. Koshta added, “We also felicitated our constable Dauda and he will be rewarded.”
