Vinod Samjitkar, 43, worked as a peon and his wife Shubhangi Samjitkar was a homemaker, said the police. Police suspect that Vinod first strangled his wife and then consumed poison, sometime before 11.30 am and after the daughter had left for college. “I had taken many loans and was in massive debt. I have killed my wife and am taking my own life as well, because I’m unable to repay the dues,” Vinod said in his suicide note, written in Hindi.

Senior Inspector Mahesh Mugutrao of Dadar police station told mid-day, “We found a suicide note from the residence, which was written by Vinod. The matter came to light after Shubhangi’s brother could not get in touch with her over the phone. He asked their neighbour to check on them. The neighbour went inside their home, as the door was open, and found the couple on the bed.” The neighbour alerted the cops, and “we rushed the couple to KEM hospital where they were declared dead before admission. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem”, Mugutrao said.
