Cases crossed 600 on Wednesday, triggering alarm; TPR down to 1.26 per cent on Friday

Two days after the city reported over 600 Covid cases, sending the alarm bells ringing, daily infections came down to 446 on Friday. While the test positivity rate dropped to 1.26 per cent, the virus claimed 11 lives. Across Maharashtra, over 7,000 new cases and 167 deaths were reported. But cases are still higher in the Kolhapur and Satara belt.

As per civic data, daily cases returned to “normal” even after conducting more than 35,000 cases. The city’s TPR has moved downwards after touching 2 per cent on June 27. During the second wave, it was 10.96 per cent on May 5.
The doubling rate also improved to 951 days on Friday.
Of the 11 deaths, 8 were comorbid and as many were in the age group of 60 and above, while 3 deaths were reported in the 40 to 60 age group. Though cases were on the lower side, the deaths in double digits are still a concern.
The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent, with 470 people being discharged.

The state recorded 7,761 new cases, including 2,287 from Pune circle and Kolhapur circle adding 2,818 cases. While 167 people succumbed to the viral infection, the state’s case-fatality rate remained constant at 2.04 per cent. During the day, 7,761 people were discharged. Currently, the state has 1.01 lakh active cases.
Excluding Mumbai, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region reported 1,011 new cases. Navi Mumbai saw 110 people contracting the infection, while Raigad reported 348 cases, the most in MMR.
Thane reported 92 new cases of Coronavirus, Kalyan-Dombivali 80 and the count in Vasai-Virar stood at 82 on Friday.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 21 fatalities of which 7 were in Vasai-Virar and 5 each in Kalyan-Dombivali and Raigad.
Over 88,000 jabbed
Meanwhile, the city saw 88,623 beneficiaries who were inoculated on Friday. The number of senior citizens who were administered the vaccines was 11,019, while 35471 people above 45 years of age got the doses. There were 39,752 people in the group of 18 to 44 who got the shots.
A total number of 63,88,673 citizens have been given the vaccines in the city ever since the city’s vaccination drive started.
