The transfer of five presidential medal-winning police officers into interior Maharashtra, has become a talking point in the department. The transfer orders were issued a couple of days back and the concerned departments were asked to relive the officers. Though there are claims regarding the transfer, including that all these officers were stuck to Mumbai for long, there are murmurs among city police that the ‘punishment posting’ is the result of having close connections with two senior IPS officers.

On May 4, four officers from Mumbai and one from Thane police of the rank inspector were transferred to interior Maharashtra. Nandkumar Gopale, Kedari Pawar, Sudhir Dalvi, Sachin Kadam and Nitin Thackeray were the transferred officers. Gopale had recently been posted to Vikhroli police station and was transferred to Police Training Centre (PTC), Jalna. Dalvi, posted at Malad police station, was transferred to PTC, Nanvij. Pawar, who was posted at Versova police station, was transferred to District Caste Certificate Verification Committee, Jalgaon. Kadam was transferred to the Tribal Research and Training Institute, Aurangabad from Deonar police station. Thackeray, attached to Thane police, was transferred to District Caste Certificate Verification Committee, Nandurbar.
The officers were conferred the President’s medal for distinguished service and all are the senior most in the Crime Branch with exceptional networks. “This is really unfortunate. All the officers have served the force for more than two decades. If senior officers have any questions about them, they could have been resolved, but giving them punishment posting is certainly not done. This affects the morale of officers in the force,” said a senior police officer.
Encounter specialist also transferred
On Thursday, encounter specialist, Inspector Daya Nayak, who was with the Anti-Terrorism Squad, was transferred to District Caste Certificate Committee, Gondia.
