During an inspection of the ongoing progress of the Coastal Road and the leaks that have emerged in the tunnel, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured that the entire Mumbai Coastal Road will be open by June 10. Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburbs Mangalprabhat Lodha was also present during the visit.

“I have discussed this issue with experts from Scotland. They confirmed that there is no problem with the structure. The leakage is coming from the expansion joint and will be resolved soon. They will use polymer grouting injection technology to prevent further leakage. Although there are about 50 expansion joints, only two are leaking. I have instructed the officials to treat all the joints,” said Shinde.

Both directions of traffic on the entire road are expected to open by June 10. However, currently, only the southbound traffic has started. The northbound traffic will be operational up to Worli, benefiting motorists by reducing congestion. The southbound lane of the Coastal Road was opened on March 12 but only for daytime use. Recently, the BMC began connecting the Coastal Road with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, enabling motorists to travel from Bandra to Nariman Point. The Coastal Road spans approximately 10.58 km and the project costs Rs 13,983 crore.

Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray shared a post on X, “The coastal road would have been completed and opened to citizens by December 2023 if the MVA had been in power. However, after the corrupt regime toppled our regime, they slowed down the work and worked on cost escalation. The first phase was inaugurated to get credit before the election. The full project is supposed to open by March, April, and then May. Now it is almost June.  MVA would probe the delay when it forms the government.”
