A fire which broke out in a scrap godown at Khadakpada in Goregaon East around 6.30 pm on Tuesday, spread to about 100 hutments in the area. While the fire extinguishing operation continued till late in the night, nobody was reported to be injured in the incident till the last update came in. The fire brigade has declared it a level 3 fire.


The fire broke out behind Samna Parivar building on Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg and it immediately spread throughout the godown and to the nearby hutments. Initially it was declared a level 2 fire and eight fire engines were rushed to the spot. However, around 7.46 pm, the fire brigade declared it a level 3 fire.


“The fire started in the godown and spread over an area of 15,000 to 20,000 square feet. Twelve fire engines and seven jumbo water tankers are involved in the fire-extinguishing operation,” said a fire officer.
