Fire breaks out at hotel in Kurla; none hurt

A fire broke out at a hotel in the Kurla area of Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon civic officials said adding that no injuries were reported in the incidentThe blaze began on the ground floor of the twostorey Sunlight Hotel located near Sheetal Talao on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road at 339 pm according to Mumbai civic bodyFour fire engines and other emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene and firefighting operations were quickly initiatedPersonnel from multiple agencies including the police 108 ambulance service and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC ward office were present at the site to assist with firefighting and ensure public safetySo far no injuries have been reported in the incidentIn an another incident earlier this week four people including a couple their daughter and 3yearold granddaughter were killed after a fire broke out in their twostorey house in Maharashtras Sangli district on Monday police said reported the PTIAn official said that the blaze initially erupted at around 9 am in a shop of utensils and electric items located on the ground floor of the house at Savarkar Nagar in Vita town of Sangli an official saidA suspected short circuit caused the blaze which spread on the first and second floors where the family was staying The house had a narrow exit and the victims were unable to escape from there he said according to the PTIFour members of the family were killed They have been identified as Vishnu Joshi 50 his wife Sunanda Joshi 46 daughter Priyanka Yogesh Ingle 30 and a granddaughter Srushti 3 he said as per the PTIAnother family member Suresh Joshi 20 suffered injuries in the incident the official saidAfter being alerted the police and fire brigade rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation he saidEarlier a fire was reported in the early hours of Monday at the Thomas Cook office located in the Corporate Park Building on SionTrombay Road Chembur East Officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade MFB said that the incident was first reported at around 138 amAccording to the MFB the blaze was classified as a Level II major fire It originated on the second floor of the groundplustwostorey glass facade building and was confined to the office area spanning approximately 2000 sq ft The fire affected electric wiring installations office furniture records UPS battery backup systems false ceilings wooden doors and glass framesThe fire escalated from a Level I at 155 am to Level II by 250 am before being brought under control by 428 am The flames were completely extinguished by 433 am and the final ldquofire makeuprdquo operation was completed at 615 am marking the end of the firefighting responseNo injuries have been reported in the incidentThe cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and further investigation is underwaywith PTI inputs
