Class of 1995 donates Rs 21 crore, both amounts to be used for revamping infrastructure, providing scholarships
The 1997 IIT-B batch makes its donation
Just as 2022 was about to come to end, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) batch of 1995 and 1997 pledged Rs 21 crore and Rs 26 crore, respectively, for their ‘legacy project’. The latter’s donation is the highest amount pledged by any silver jubilee batch to date and both will be utilised for the same cause as that of previous batches—giving back to the alma mater.

The Arena 95-Class of 1995 Basketball Court
A legacy project is a contribution, activity or cause adopted by the batch celebrating its silver jubilee or reunion for the betterment of the institute and of the people associated with it, as a way of giving back to their alma mater and leaving behind a lasting legacy and memory of their reunion.

‘Insti-wapsi’
The institute hosted a series of alumni reunions at the institute’s Powai campus culminating with the silver jubilee reunion of the two batches on December 27. The ex-IITians not only pledged their support to their alma mater but also recalled their days on the campus. Over the course of three days, members of the class of ’95 toured the campus and revisited their favourite hangout spots as well as their respective departments and hostels.

They visited several new labs set up on campus including the Tinkerer’s Lab and the Design and Making Labs. The alumni fondly termed their visit to their alma mater as ‘Insti-wapsi’. An official said, “This year, the class of ’95 and ’97 added to the alumni’s legacy of giving back through their generous pledges of Rs 21 crore and Rs 26 crore each."
The donations will be utilised for the institute’s priority initiatives such as revamping hostel infrastructure and providing scholarships to students. Addressing the visiting alumni, Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, director, IIT-B, stated: “IIT-Bombay sees the success of its alumni as its success like a mother always does about her children. We are delighted to have them all at home and look forward to their continued association with IIT-Bombay." The institute honoured the class of 1995’s generosity by renaming its famous basketball court ‘Arena 95-Class of 1995 Basketball Court’.
