The Central Railway (CR) on Sunday said it has completed widening work of platforms 5 and 6 at Thane.

The CR in a post on 'X' said, "Historic work on widening of Thane station's platform 5/6 completed! Widening of Platform 5/6 by 2-3 meters for 587 meters length. Use of 750 pre-cast hollow blocks. Coordination of 400 laborers, 20 teams, and 10 contractors. Minimal disruption despite 935 train cancellations Efficient execution with zero delays! Work carried out along with NI work of CSMT, one of the busiest coaching terminals of Indian Railways. Deep appreciation to the work force for their meticulous planning, precision at work and timely execution."

Mumbai local train update: The 63-hour mega block
The Central Railway had initiated a 63-hour mega block at Thane railway station and a 36-hour special block at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The mega block began at midnight on May 30-31 (Thursday-Friday night).
The platform widening project involved the use of 750 pre-cast hollow blocks and required the coordination of 400 workers, 20 teams and 10 contractors, a CR official said.
As many as 935 trains were cancelled during the 63-hour period, the official said.
The mega block for the widening of platform numbers 5 and 6 at Thane station started from Thursday midnight, while a 36-hour block is operated for the works related to the extension of platform nos 10 and 11 at CSMT to accommodate 24-coach trains.
At CSMT, 250 skilled and technically competent staff are working at CSMT station, as per the release.
The CR operated Panvel-CSMT trains till Wadala Road station, while trains on the Central Line were operated till Parel and Byculla stations.
Mumbai local train update: Trains cancelled
As per Central Railway, 930 suburban locals and 86 long-distance trains were cancelled during the 63-hour mega block. Of these, the highest 545 suburban services and more than 35 long-distance trains will remain cancelled on Saturday.
Besides the cancellation of local trains, many services were short-terminated and short-oriented on Saturday, officials added.
