A major accident occurred near Narpoli Police Station in Bhiwandi when an iron rod fell from an under-construction Mumbai Metro Line 5 bridge in Bhiwandi area of Thane district in Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday.

The heavy rod came crashing down on a moving auto-rickshaw, seriously injuring a man sitting inside the vehicle, they said.

The locals and some eyewitnesses immediately rushed the victim to a nearby private hospital, where his condition remains critical.
