A 45-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 28th floor of an Andheri-based high-rise at 9 am on Monday. According to the Amboli police, the deceased, Sunil Khanna, had drunk an entire bottle of whisky and smoked a cigarette before taking the extreme step.

The police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) in connection with the case and have started investigating the matter. Khanna resided in flat number 2803 at HDIL Metropolis in Andheri West. The apartment was being renovated at the time of the incident. A police officer told mid-day, “Khanna also resided at Chembur. On Monday morning, he entered the building around 8 am with a whisky bottle. He drank all its contents and also smoked. Later, he brought a table to the balcony and climbed on top of it to make the jump.”

A security guard of the building told midday, “After hearing a loud noise, we rushed to the podium parking space to find Khanna lying on the ground. His entire body was crushed due to the impact. He was depressed. He would come to the flat where he lived by himself three or four days a week.” A police officer said, “We rushed Khanna to Cooper hospital where he was declared dead. The post-mortem is taking place at the same hospital.”

Senior Inspector Bandopant Bansode of Amboli police station said, “We found that Khanna was depressed due to his divorce. We recorded statements from his family members, which corroborated this. We didn’t find a suicide note. Khanna had been unemployed for many years.”
