The new Mumbai Metro Mumbai lines of Yellow Line 2A and Red Line 7 have reached a milestone of 50 million passengers on Sunday. Between April 2, 2022, to September 24, 2023, a staggering 5,05,22,330 passengers have travelled on both the lines with an average growth of 5 per cent per month.

“Mumbaikars are increasingly choosing the metro as their preferred mode of transportation, and witnessing a 5 per cent growth every month is a significant achievement. It is commendable that 40 per cent of our passengers have opted for the Mumbai One Card, reducing reliance on paper-based QR tickets. We are continuously working towards introducing various ticketing options to further enhance the convenience of our commuters,” Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, CMD of Maha Mumbai Metro Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) & Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said. He expressed satisfaction with the increasing ridership numbers and the adoption of the Mumbai One Card.

A total of 1,49,556 people has chosen this payment method, representing approximately 40 per cent of daily passengers. Among the bustling network of the Mumbai Metro, several stations have emerged as hotspots for commuters. These include Gundavali, Andheri West, Anand Nagar, Dahanukar Wadi, Dahisar (East), Kandivli (West), and Borivli (West). These stations reflect the vibrant metro transit culture of the city and have become popular hubs for daily travel.

Recognising the importance of passenger convenience, the Mumbai Metro Corporation Limited has facilitated an extra entry gate at Gundavali station on Line 7. This addition will ensure smoother entry and exit for commuters, reducing congestion during peak hours.
