The average minimum temperature in October this year was the third highest in India’s recorded history, says the IMD. It was 0.96C above normal, the experts say. The minimum average for October was also 0.73C above normal, making it the tenth highest historically. In Maharashtra, however, temperatures were just about normal.

“Mumbai witnessed daytime temperatures above 36Celcius—two degrees above normal—for as many as 16 days, and 35C on the other days,” says Rajesh Kapadia of Vagaries of Weather, a popular weather blog. October nights in the city were two degrees above normal, and scanty rain of 11 mm and 28 mm was recorded in Santacruz and Colaba respectively.
