With the civic body elections nearing, some areas in Mahalaxmi and Worli are gearing up for a makeover. While a number of footpaths will be repaired and locations beautified, a cycle track will come up on the sidewalk along the protective wall around the racecourse. The BMC proposes to spend Rs 1.22 crore for the same, said a civic official.

The protective wall adjacent to the racecourse on Dr E Moses Road is in dilapidated condition. The sidewalk is also damaged in some places. Civic sources said the protective wall as well as the sidewalk will be repaired and a cycle track constructed at the same place. As per the proposal, they want to end illegal parking along the sidewalk too. The proposal, which will be tabled in the standing committee meeting today, mentions that the work on the cycle track will be completed in four months, and the contractors concerned will have the responsibility of maintaining it for two years.
