Mumbai rains: IMD issues yellow alert for city, its neighbouring regions

According to IMD`s latest weather alert, a low-pressure area developed over the east-central Arabian Sea off the south Konkan coast on Saturday at 5.30 am. This has caused a shift in currents, and widespread rainfall activity is forecast across Maharashtra over the next four to five days

According to the latest weather report by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low pressure area developed over the east- central Arabian Sea off the south Konkan coast on Saturday at 5.30 am. This has caused a shift in currents, and widespread rainfall activity is forecast across Maharashtra over the next four to five days. The weather bureau has predicted that this depression will continue to move eastwards and is likely to make landfall as a depression between Ratnagiri and Dapoli. Amid these developments, IMD has issued a red alert in these regions. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will continue to be on yellow alert for next three days. 

Speaking about the development, Shubhangi Bhute from IMD Mumbai said, “A low-pressure system has formed over the Arabian Sea, which is expected to develop into a depression and move across the Ratnagiri and Dapoli regions. As a result, these areas are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, prompting a red alert in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Similarly, heavy to very heavy rain is forecasted for the ghat areas of Satara and Kolhapur. An orange alert has been issued for Raigad, while Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar will continue under a yellow alert.”
