Mumbai is witnessing a worrying resurgence of Malaria cases, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reporting 824 more cases of the vector-borne disease between January and August 2025 compared to the number of cases reported during the same period last year.

While 4,021 cases of Malaria were reported during these months in 2024, the same period this year has seen 4,825 cases. The city also witnessed a rise in Chikungunya cases in the same period. While 210 cases were reported during the said months in 2024, 328 cases were recorded in 2025.

Under BMC's Zero Mosquito Breeding Campaign, targeted initiatives were implemented to strengthen community and healthcare engagement. Special sensitisation sessions were held with 1,015 housing societies to raise awareness about preventing mosquito breeding. Focused drives were conducted in 18 hospitals to ensure adherence to anti-vector control measures. Additionally, 1,321 private practitioners were sensitised to enhance timely reporting, diagnosis, and management of vector-borne diseases.
