Mumbai sees 288 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death; 532 patients recover

Mumbai on Sunday reported 288 new COVID-19 cases and one death, taking the tally to 10,54,050 and the toll to 16,683, the civic body said. The case positivity rate stood at 0.7 per cent. Maharashtra, too, saw a slight dip in cases, at 3,502. 


A total of 532 patients recovered in the city on Sunday, which raised the number of recoveries so far to 10,31,836, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement. The case recovery rate of Mumbai stands at 98 per cent as of Sunday.

The deceased had comorbidities and was aged above 60 years. There are 2,667 active cases in the city. 

Of the 288 new cases, 88 per cent or 253 cases were asymptomatic while 35 patients were admitted to hospitals. 13 patients are on Oxygen support. Of the total 36,889 COVID beds in hospitals in Mumbai, 1,027 were occupied.

With 39,938 new tests, the number of samples examined so far in Mumbai went up to 1,58,06,279, the BMC said. The case doubling rate is 1,397 days. The city is free of active containment zones.

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 3,502 new cases, over 850 less than the day ago, which took the state’s infection count to 78,42,949. There were 17 deaths across the state, the health department said.

At present, there are 45,905 active cases in Maharashtra. A total of 9,815 patients were discharged on Sunday, pushing the overall recovery figure to 76,49,669. The recovery rate is 97.54 per cent.

With 1,34,634 people being tested on Sunday, the cumulative test count reached 7,64,37,416, the department said.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including the megalopolis, reported 587 new cases and four deaths. Raigad, Navi Mumbai and Thane city reported the most cases after Mumbai at 56, 46 and 41 cases, respectively. Of the four deaths, one was from Mumbai and three were from Raigad. 

Nashik division reported 571 new cases, Pune division 932 cases, Kolhapur division 173 cases, Aurangabad division 88 cases, Latur division 148 cases, Akola division 438 cases and Nagpur division 565 cases, the state health department said.

The state also reported 218 Omicron variant cases, of which 172 were in Mumbai, 30 in Pune city, 12 in Gadchiroli and 14 in Pune rural.
