Mumbai sees third zero Covid-19 death day since pandemic began last year

Mumbai reported zero deaths from COVID-19 for the third time since the beginning of the pandemic, on Wednesday. While the daily cases rose over 200, the test positivity rate (TPR) saw a significant dip on Wednesday. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the daily cases were 238 and the TPR was 0.71 per cent. 


While the lowest TPR of the second wave was registered at 0.28 per cent on December 1, the city’s zero death toll was reported on October 17 for the first time and on December 11 for the second time.

The doubling rate dipped and was 2,514 days on Wednesday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 210 people recovered and were discharged on Wednesday. 

The state saw a significant rise in new cases but a dip in COVID-19 fatalities. As per the state health department report, 925 cases were reported along with 10 deaths across the state.

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 929 recovered and got discharged on Wednesday. Currently the state has 6,467 active cases. 

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)  saw a significant rise in new cases. As per the state report, 417 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR  with 45 new cases. It was followed by 30 cases in Thane Municipal Corporation.

While Kalyan-Dombivli saw 26 cases, Vasai-Virar reported 20 cases each,  Raigad saw 13 cases and Thane reported 12 cases. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered one death that was seen in Vasai-Virar.
