The city saw over 2,600 rape cases in the past three years, from 2019 to 2021. Social media friends top the list as offenders in 1,507 rape cases and 856 of these cases were registered under POCSO Act. This was revealed when the Mumbai police held their annual press meet presenting crime data on Tuesday. The last annual press meet was held in 2006, according to the Mumbai police chief.

Neighbours ranked third on the list and 316 were found involved in  cases of rape including 218 cases of POCSO. File pic
