A 16-year-old girl died on Saturday after having consumed poison at Samata Nagar in Kandivli on Friday, after a fight with her younger brother over playing games online.

According to the police, the girl stayed with her father — a rickshaw driver, her mother who was out when the incident took place, and two siblings. On Friday, when their father had gone out for work, the siblings were playing a game on his mobile phone which he had left at home. Their elder sister was also in the house.

The teenager then had a fight with her brother, 14, who was allegedly hogging the mobile phone and not allowing her to play.  “In anger, the girl ran out of the house to a nearby medical shop, and bought rat poison. She consumed it and then went home and told her brother,” said a police officer.

The police said the boy informed his father and sister, and with neighbours they rushed the girl to the Shatabdi hospital but she died on Saturday. “We have registered a case and sent the body for post mortem,” said Senior Inspector Anand Rao Hanke, of Samata Nagar police station.
