Following a mid-day report on commuters’ woes with regard to Charni Road railway station, dated October 18, Western Railway (WR) has installed a containerised ticket booking office at the Churchgate end of the bridge on the east side to help users buy tickets easily.

“For the convenience of commuters and to facilitate ease in the purchase of tickets, a new ticket booking office has been opened at the southeast end of Charni Road station. The booking office was opened in the presence of Deepak Kesarkar, Mumbai guardian minister and minister for school education and Marathi language, on October 22,” WR Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Thakur said, adding that the booking office will be open from 6 am to 10 pm.

The ticket booking office has been set up on the footpath, affording easy access to all. Thanking mid-day for the initiative, local activist Gaurav Sagwekar of Amhi Girgaonkar, who has been spearheading the campaign, said that thousands of senior citizens in the locality who otherwise had to take a long walk just to buy tickets would benefit from this gesture. “We thank mid-day for getting the issue highlighted at the right time and in the right context,” local resident Vignesh Sunder said.

Last week, mid-day reported on how work on the new landing of the new foot overbridge at Charni Road station had been inconveniencing commuters as the heavily used slow-line platforms 2 and 3 lacked access to the new bridge at the Dadar-end.

Railway officials had promised that they would look into the matter as the Churchgate end of the station also did not have a railway ticket booking office and senior citizens had been complaining about having to take a long walk just to buy tickets.

“The new booking office was opened on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras as a Diwali gift. It will provide ease and comfort to commuters,” Thakur said.
