According to a report in Times of India, the funds will be used to illuminate walkways at Shivaji Park. Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had allocated Rs 4 crore to revamp Shivaji Park.
In a letter addressed to Mumbai suburban collector Milind Borikar, Thackeray stated, "Many senior citizens and sportspersons use walkways at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park. But there is not enough light here and this causes inconvenience to citizens."
"So I request you to allocate Rs 1.2 crore from my MLC funds for additional illumination of this walkway," the letter stated.
Uddhav's letter comes weeks after his cousin and MNS chief Raj Thackeray wrote to the BMC chief seeking permission to get corporate funds for the project.
According to officials, the chief minister's request has been sent for a nod, as a special case.
