Mumbai: Water stock only at 35 per cent

According to BMC data, the Vihar and Tulsi lakes areas received good rain.

The heavy rain in Mumbai on Monday night has not affected the catchment area of the lakes in Thane district much. The water stock there increased by only 23,000 million litres. According to a civic official, this is the average rise. By Tuesday morning the total water stock was 5.16 lakh million litres, which is 35.70 per cent of the total capacity of 14.47 million litres. On Monday the water stock was 4.93 lakh million litres.

According to BMC data, the Vihar and Tulsi lakes areas received good rain. The Vihar lake area received 84 millimetres rain and the Tulsi area received 110 mm rain in 24 hours. On the other hand, major lakes located in Thane district also received average rainfall. Bhatsa which is the largest lake, received 24 mm rain, and Upper Vaitarna received 11 mm rain. Upper Vaitarna is located in Nashik District and Bhatsa is located in Thane District. Colaba received 106 mm rain and Santacruz reported 120 mm rain in the past 24 hours till 5.30 PM on Tuesday.
