A day after dust storm and rain, the weather department has issued a 'yellow alert' for city while sharing Mumbai weather updates on May 14.


According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), "heat wave in isolated pockets. Possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm
towards afternoon/evening were very likely."


The IMD Mumbai on Tuesday evening issued a nowcast warning.


It said, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai suburban during next 3-4 hours. Take precautions while moving out."

Meanwhile, a yellow alert was issued for Mumbai's adjoining areas including Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, etc.

The weather department has also issued an 'orange alert' for parts of Maharashtra including Nashik, Pune and Ahmednagar.

A dust storm followed with rains and gusty winds had on Monday lashed parts of Mumbai and neighbouring metropolitan areas.

On May 13, the IMD Mumbai had also issued a "nowcast warning" forecasting a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and moderate to intense spells of rain for Thane, Palghar and Mumbai.

"Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mumbai in the next 3-4 hours," an official of IMD had said.

Mumbai witnessed several disruptions following the dust storm and unseasonal rains in the city

The Mumbai Metro services were suspended between Aarey and Andheri East metro stations after a banner landed on the overheard wire due to strong winds

Suburban services on Central Railway were affected after an overhead equipment pole between Thane and Mulund stations got bent due to strong winds, an official had said on Monday.

The suburban services on the Main Line have been suspended, the chief spokesperson of Central Railway had earlier said.

City also witnessed tragedies including structures collapse in Wadala and Ghatkopar areas. 

In Wadala, two people were injured after an under-construction metal parking tower to collapse on a road in Wadala area.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse incident in Mumbai rose to 14 while 75 others are injured, the officials said on Tuesday as rescue and search operations continued a day after the tragedy.

A huge advertising hoarding in Ghatkopar had collapsed on a petrol pump on Monday leaving several people trapped under the debris, the officials said.
