Out of the six lives lost in the Tardeo fire, two belonged to one family. Phalguni Shah lost her 75-year-old grandmother and 40-year-old maternal uncle.

On Saturday, Shah was driving to Gujarat with her parents to attend her uncle’s funeral, when she received a call from her friend who informed her about the incident. Shah’s family had celebrated their grandmother’s 75th birthday recently, where the whole family had come together.

The deceased have been identified as Manjulaben Kantharia and Kiritbhai Kantharia, both residents of the 19th floor of the Kamla Building. Shah, who is working with an NGO, said, “My grandmother had stayed behind as she was very old,” Shah said.
