As in the rest of the state, the second COVID-19 wave has hit regions under Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) very badly. The number of cases recorded in both the corporations in the month of March 2021, nearly equal cases reported altogether in previous four months. These active cases in both the corporations are also at an all-time high. The only silver lining is that COVID deaths have not increased significantly.

The sharp rise in the positive cases has forced the Maharashtra government to impose new curbs and night curfew. NMMC had reported 10,110 cases in the month of March 2021, which is slightly less than the total of positive cases reported from November to February (10,878). In PMC, March witnessed 5,735 cases which is also little less than the total cases — 5,749 — found in those 4 months.
