The Coronavirus-induced gloom was no longer the mainstay at IIT-B as the Powai campus registered record job offers at the end of the first phase of the placement season. The average annual package stood at Rs 25 lakh, while the highest amount topped Rs 2 crore. 


Students at the premiere institute received 1,723 offers, including 45 from foreign firms, of which 1,382 were accepted. Phase-II of placement is scheduled to begin in January.


The financial sector offered the best salary with an average annual package of Rs 28.4 lakh. This was followed by the IT industry at an average CTC of Rs 27.05 lakh per annum, R&D at Rs 25.12 lakh, engineering and technology at Rs 21.54 lakh and consulting at Rs 18.02 lakh. 


The highest domestic package was Rs 1.68 crore a year and the highest international offer was USD 2.87 lakh—nearly Rs 2.1 crore. 

The number of international offers above R1 crore stood at 7, while five domestic companies hired students at a CTC of more than Rs 1 crore.
