One dead, two injured in auto-rickshaw collision with water tanker in Thane

A man was killed and two others were seriously injured after an autorickshaw rammed into a stationary water tanker in Thane late on Sunday night officials saidThe incident took place around 1159 pm near Cadbury Junction on the service road connecting Nitin Company to the Eastern Express Highway in Thane West according to the Thane Municipal Corporationrsquos Disaster Management CellA Bajaj Ape rickshaw MH03 DS3036 collided with a parked water tanker MH04 CU7728 leaving three passengers trapped inside the vehicle Following the crash teams from the fire brigade city traffic police and the Disaster Management Cell rushed to the spot with a fire engine rescue vehicle and other support equipmentRescue operations took about 30 minutes after which the victims were pulled out and shifted to the District Government Hospital One of them identified only as Bablu was declared dead on arrival by doctorsThe two others mdash Daniel Naik 56 who suffered severe injuries to his head and leg and Alam Shaikh 29 who sustained head and hand injuries mdash were later referred to Sion Hospital in Mumbai for advanced treatmentThe accident caused a temporary disruption of traffic along the busy Eastern Express Highway stretch but normalcy was restored after the damaged rickshaw was removed officials saidFour injured as speeding car crashes into pedestrians on footpath in MumbaiIn another incident four people were injured after a speeding car crashed into them on a footpath in the eastern suburbs in Mumbai on Saturday morning police said reported PTIThe accident occurred at LBS Marg in Ghatkopar around 630 am an official saidHe said a speeding car lost control and veered onto the footpath crashing into four people one of whom is said to be in a critical condition reported PTIThe CCTV footage showed two women and a man stepping out of the vehicle and the man fled the spot the official said adding that the women were taken into custodyThe police recovered liquor bottles from the vehicle and it is suspected that the accused were in an inebriated state at the time of the accident the official said reported PTIThe police were in the process of registering a case and a search has been launched for the absconding accused he saidWith inputs from PTI
