Authorities in Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli have declared a two-day closure for all schools within their jurisdictions, on August 18 and 19, due to heavy rain and a ‘Red Alert’ issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This precautionary measure, aimed at ensuring the safety of students, follows advisories from the State Emergency Operations Centre, the Thane District Collector, and the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) issued an official circular confirming that all educational institutions — ranging from pre-primary to higher secondary schools, government-run, aided, or unaided — will remain closed on these two days. “The safety of our students is paramount. Given the current weather conditions and the red alert, all schools will be closed on August 18 and 19,” the circular stated.
School authorities were directed to ensure that students attending afternoon sessions on Monday were escorted home safely, while school staff was to remain at the school premises until every student is accounted for. Any exams, training programmes, or other school-related events scheduled during this period are to be postponed and rescheduled.
