Putting an end to confusion, state School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday evening declared dates for Maharashtra State Board exams—the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam for Std XII will be held from March 4 to April 7 while the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam for Std X will be held from March 15 to April 18. Both board exams will be held in the offline pattern as per the traditional practice, unlike last year.

State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad released a video statement on Thursday evening declaring the much-awaited exam dates. “Both exams will be held as per the regular practice in offline manner and the evaluation system will also be as per the old practice. The exams will be held at centres keeping in mind all Covid protocols. All SOPs declared by the health department from time to time will be followed while making the arrangements,” she said.

The dates for practical assessment and viva, however, are different. For HSC, viva and practicals will be held from February 14 to March 3, and for SSC it will be held from February 25 to March 14.

As per the minister’s office the results of HSC and SSC will be declared in the first two weeks of June and, respectively. The detailed timetable will be available on the official website of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

There was confusion around state board exams, especially as non-state boards are already holding the same. Students, parents and teachers were seeking clarity especially in view of the Omicron variant. “Today’s announcement provides clarity for all. We have been waiting for this,” said a teacher from a Dahisar school.
