Six out of the eight districts in Maharashtra's Marathwada region are facing a drought-like situation similar to the one observed in 2014, according to state agriculture minister Dhananjay Munde. He expressed concern over the impact of a 21-day rain break on providing relief to farmers through part crop insurance pay-outs.
Munde held a review meeting to assess water availability, crop conditions, and cattle fodder across the Marathwada districts. He noted that Hingoli and Nanded districts were the only ones to receive average seasonal rainfall. However, automated machines that measure rainfall are causing issues in determining the 21-day rain gap required for granting 25% of the crop insurance amount to farmers.
