In another accident last month, a heavy multi-axel vehicle allegedly mowed down a five-year-old girl in Bhiwandi town of Thane district. According to an agency report, the accident occurred when the girl was crossing Cavindra-Vanzarpratti road around 12.30 pm and was run over by the vehicle.

The Thane Police later detained the driver and filed a case against him under section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act, the agency report added.

Reportedly, locals had gathered at the spot and sloganeered against the police and administration; the sloganeering was an expression of their frustration. The locals had been demanding a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles on the said road between 12 noon to 5 pm and the issue was pending with the traffic department when the accident happened.

Meanwhile, in another case, a six-year-old died after he came into contact with a live wire outside his house in Mulund suburb of Mumbai.
