An alleged attack on a female prisoner at a state-run dormitory has prompted Thane cops to launch an investigation. Based on a video complaint that representatives from the District Woman and Child Welfare Department received, the police filed a formal report (FIR), according to a PTI report.

The complaint states that a junior caretaker allegedly forced another girl to massage her legs, and a senior caretaker allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old hostel resident in Ulhasnagar. The girls said that if they didn't agree with their demands, the carers threatened to send them to the Bhiwandi detention home, the PTI report further stated.

No arrests have been made as of yet, and the investigation is still underway. On January 12, the Thane Police registered the complaint under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (penalty for voluntarily causing harm) and 506 (punishment for criminal investigation), as well as the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015. Authorities are thoroughly investigating the allegations of mistreatment of female inmates at the government hostel.

A Thane builder was fined and sentenced to 'till the rise of the court' in a cheque bounce case. According to a PTI report, the builder was fined Rs 41.4 lakh. If Anil Thakurdas Kursija fails to pay the fine within a month of being convicted under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, he faces an additional two months in prison, according to the newspaper.

The ruling, handed out by Judicial Magistrate First Class Harish Pardeshi on January 5, was made public on Saturday, according to the newspaper. Kursija, who is presently being held in another case, was named in a case filed by a Thane-based businessman in November 2016. Despite receiving full payment, the businessman accused Kursija's construction firm, in which he is a partner, of failing to deliver possession of a flat, the news agency report further stated.

According to the report, the claimant paid Rs 14.99 lakh for the flat but was denied ownership. When asked for a refund, the building company promised interest but did not follow through. Following that, cheques totalling Rs 38,21,000 issued by the firm bounced, according to the complaint.

According to the report, given the economic nature of the offence and the complainant's suffering as a result of the dishonoured cheques, the judge stated that a sentence of 'till the rising of the court' and a 9% fine on the remaining amount is appropriate given the circumstances and the accused's economic situation, the report added.
