Following the first rainfall of the season, a landslide occurred in Haji Malang or Shri Malanggad in Ambernath which resulted in the death of a man. The incident, which happened on Monday morning, injured two and they are currently receiving treatment at Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar.  The deceased, sources said, was attempting to save his son's life.

The area around Haji Malang or Malanggad shrine is infamous for unauthorised constructions. Being an open space, the area poses significant risks; despite the dangers, many families continue to reside there. The crackdown by the forest department over the issue had not been sustained.

Ghulam Syed, aged 35, lost his life while saving his toddler aged 1.5 years. His son and wife Nabiya had sustained serious injuries and were taken to Ulhasnagar Central Hospital for treatment. The family also lost their house in the landslide which occurred around 7 am.

"The two injured are undergoing treatment at Central Hospital. We are investigating the matter of whether the house or authorised or unauthorised and will further take action accordingly," said a police officer.
