The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane has directed the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to pay Rs 1.12 crore as compensation to the family of a Mumbai police constable who lost his life in a road accident in 2022.
In an order passed on Friday, the MACT, presided over by member R.V. Mohite, ordered the MSRTC to pay the compensation amount with 9 per cent annual interest from the date of filing the claim until the final payment is made. The tribunal has given MSRTC one month from the date of the order to deposit the amount, according to news agency PTI.
The victim, Girish Ashok Harad (30), a police constable with Mumbai Police, was on his way to report for night duty when the accident occurred. A speeding MSRTC bus, travelling from Badlapur towards Murbad, veered off the road and rammed into Harad's scooter near Sonawale village in Thane district.
