In another disturbing instance of corporal punishment meted out to a Standard X student, a teacher from a private coaching firm was arrested for allegedly beating his 15-year-old female student for not completing her homework. The Bhoiwada police took cognisance of a complaint made by Shrikant Mhatre, who alleged that his daughter, who studies in Shreyas Classes near Hindmata junction in Parel, was beaten up by her tutor on September 19. "The girl, who is in Standard X, had not solved some papers that were given to her by Shailendra Salve, who teaches at the coaching classes," said Vikram Patil, senior inspector of police, Bhoiwada police station. The non-compliance with the instructions of doing homework reportedlyu00a0 angered Salve, who hit out at the girl. "He beat her with a duster. He pulled her hair and slapped her on the cheeks. The girl told her father about the episodeu00a0 who lodged a complaint with us. She was thrashed very badly," said Patil. "We have registered a complaint under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means) of the IPC against the teacher, Salve, and have arrested him. He will be produced in court on Thursday," said Patil.
