<p>Maharashtra NCP (SP) president Jayant Patil on Wednesday said it is for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to decide how to teach a lesson to Pakistan in the wake of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/pahalgam-terror-attack-india-shuts-airspace-for-all-pakistani-airlines-military-flights-23532192" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Pahalgam terror attack</a>, reported news agency PTI.</p>
<p>He said people and opposition parties are standing with the BJP-led government after the April 22 attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by terrorists in Pahalgam in south Kashmir.</p>
<p>The former state minister was speaking to the media in Thane where he had come to attend inauguration of a temple.</p>
<p>He said so far only security forces had been targeted by terrorists, but now even citizens and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/pahalgam-terror-attack-modi-led-ccs-reviews-jammu-and-kashmir-security-situation-23532164" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">tourists</a> are not safe, reported PTI.</p>

<p>Congress leader <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/do-terrorists-have-time-to-ask-about-religion-waddetiwar-sparks-debate-on-pahalgam-attack-23529330" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Rahul Gandhi</a> on Thursday demanded martyr status for the 26 victims of the deadly Pahalgam attack and requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "respect the sentiments of the families of those who lost their lives by giving honour to them."</p>
<p>"I stand with the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack in their grief and in their demand for martyr status. The Prime Minister is requested to respect the sentiments of the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy by giving this honour to them," the Congress leader wrote in a post on X.</p>
<p>Terrorists on April 22 opened fire in Baisaran, a popular tourist spot in the upper reaches of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, killing 26 people, mostly holidayers from other states -- an incident that has spiked <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/pahalgam-terror-attack-mp-shrikant-slams-congress-says-party-should-first-clarify-stance-on-controversial-statements-by-its-leaders-23530778" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">India-Pakistan tensions</a>, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the killers would be pursued "to the ends of the earth."</p>
