WR opens digital lounge and co-working space at Mumbai Central

Western Railway has opened a digital lounge and coworking space at Mumbai Central station Main Line as part of its ongoing efforts to modernise passenger amenities officials said on ThursdayThis is the first such facility introduced by Western Railway and aims to provide a convenient and comfortable workspace within the railway station for passengers they saidDesigned for business travellers and professionalsSpread across 1700 square feet the digital lounge has been designed to meet the needs of business travellers professionals and remote workers It offers a quiet and functional environment for passengers who require office facilities meeting spaces or a place to work while travelling an official statement saidThe initiative addresses the changing travel habits of passengers many of whom now work on the moveModern amenities on offerThe Western Railway officials said that the digital lounge is equipped with a range of modern facilities including Highspeed WiFi and multiple charging points Comfortable seating with chairs tables and sofas Dedicated conference and meeting rooms Flexible spaces for meetings and video conferencing Modular workstations for individual use Selfservice light refreshments and nonalcoholic beverages Upgraded toilet and washroom facilitiesWill generate nonfare revenueAccording to the officials the project is expected to generate around Rs 320 crore in revenue over five years contributing to Western Railwayrsquos nonfare revenue initiativesOfficials said that the digital lounge reflects Indian Railwaysrsquo efforts to align with Indiarsquos growing digital economy and the increasing culture of flexible and remote workingBadlapur station revamp New FOBs elevated decks and other infrastructure works underwayMeanwhile in an another statement the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation MRVC said that it has made significant progress on infrastructure works at Badlapur railway station to enhance commuter safety improve passenger amenities and support the proposed 3rd and 4th railway lines between Kalyan and BadlapurSeveral key facilities have already been commissioned to improve passenger movement and control trespassing These include a 330metrelong home platform opened in February 2024a 6metrewide Foot Over Bridge FOB at the Karjat end opened in December 2022 connecting all platforms for eastwest access andtwo new 12metrewide FOBs opened in March and June 2025Construction is ongoing for an elevated deck connecting both 12metrewide FOBs over platforms 1 and 2 A major portion of the deck was commissioned in March 2025 and the remaining section is now under construction following the removal of an old middle FOB the official statement saidRecent milestoneDuring a sixhour night block from 1314 December 2025 MRVC successfully launched all 17 remaining girders including major cross girders for the elevated deck The work involved 40 personnel a 150tonne crane and two 15tonne Faranas Despite congested site conditions the work was completed safely and efficiently the official statement said
