A portion of a road in Indira Nagar locality caved in around 11.20 am, said Avinash Sawant, chief of the regional disaster management cell said. A socialist leader, Vaidya took part in the freedom struggle and was jailed. He worked for the uplift of people residing in the erstwhile princely state of Jawhar in Palghar and fought with the government for the rights of the villagers and farmers. Vaidya, a former journalist, also took part in the Goa liberation movement. (PTI)

Parts of Mumbai will face water cuts for more than 24 hours this weekend due to pipeline repair work, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Friday. The civic body in a release said the pipeline repair work in Dadar area in central Mumbai will affect water supply to G-South and G-North civic wards from 8 am on May 27 to 10 pm on May 28. Areas such as Mahim, Matunga (west), parts of Dadar (west), Delisle Road, Prabhadevi, Lower Parel, Satrasta, and Dhobi Ghat among other localities will face water cuts during different times, the release said. The destroyed drugs included 9 kg of high-purity cocaine and 198 kg of methamphetamine (meth) which were seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, from a fruit consignment in October 2022, the official said.
